4.5 stars.
I read this one because a woman in my writing group called this series her favorite middle grade series of all time. Since I love this woman’s middle grade (you better believe I will be shouting about it when she finds a publisher), I had to read it. And yes, it’s really, really well done. Each of the sisters is unique and treated with respect by the author. It’s safe and nostalgic and beautifully written and perfect for a read-aloud. It reminded me of Noel Streatfeild’s Shoes books. The only reason I didn’t rate it 5 stars is that this kind of book isn’t really my thing usually. I will be reading the rest of the series, eventually. I’m not dying to necessarily, but I trust the author to tell me a good story.
